Multi-talented Hong Kong architect Betty Ng likens judging entries in an international awards program to taking a virtual world architecture tour. Joining the A&D Awards jury panel for the first time this year, the founder of local practice COLLECTIVE says she is hoping to see work “that we can all say we haven’t seen before.”
CELEBRATING YOUNG LEADERS
Are you an emerging star in the world of architecture and interior design? Do you feel highly motivated and passionate about your work and the industry? If so, and you’re under the age of 40, you should join the 40 under 40 awards!
Launched in 2006, the awards recognise forty of the most talented young professionals in the fields of architecture, interior and product design. They have helped advance the careers of some of the biggest names in the A&D community. This year’s awards are sponsored by leading practice BARRIE HO Architecture Sydney, whose founder Barrie Ho is a former winner.

Challenged by curator Hashim Sarkis to imagine spaces “in which we can generously live together”, Hong Kong’s contribution to this year’s Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition is a collection of 20 installations exploring the theme of Redistribution: Land, People and Environment. Together they form the Hong Kong Collateral Event, an augmented reality experience created by a team led by HKIA President Donald Choi.
Acclaimed Hong Kong architectural practice, BARRIE HO Architecture, has long believed that the successful transformation of traditional buildings is all about understanding and engaging the local milieu. Which helps explain the firm’s latest project, the Community Gallery @ Dulwich Hill. It’s an ambitious conversion of a classic brick warehouse into an eclectic community space in an inner western suburb of Sydney.
For 18 years, the A&D Awards have set the benchmark for excellence in architecture and interior design within Greater China and beyond. They are highly respected for recognising and celebrating the most innovative and effective projects within the region by local and overseas practices.
A&D Awards 2021 offers some further refinements to the award categories, to better reflect the demands of today’s industry. We continue with our rigorous two-tier judging process, introduced with great success last year, with some of the world’s most talented and distinguished industry practitioners on the jury panels.
The awards are the perfect platform to showcase the best of your work to the wider A&D community, including leading suppliers, developers, industry bodies and government agencies. Winning a Gold, Silver or Bronze A&D Award is the ultimate accolade and serves as a powerful tool for growing your business in the Greater China region.
The thing that impressed me was the youthful spirit. Young designers, young practitioners. You could feel the spirit and quality of their work. That’s encouraging.
Congratulations to the A&D Awards for celebrating excellence in architecture. I hope more professionals join in the coming years to make its impact even more far-reaching.
Thank you, A&D Awards. You’ve been an amazing support for our practice. Without you, I think we would not be where we are today.
The standard of entries was very high… I learnt a lot from them. I think they are an insight into Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
My advice is if you don’t enter you will not know how good or bad you are. So enter and share your projects on a great platform of design.
I’ve seen some really good projects and outside the box concepts, so I can’t wait to see more interesting work next year.
I think the projects are of really high caliber, and the awards are an endorsement of the quality of design. I think everyone should support them.
